Chopta, often called the “Mini Switzerland of India,” is a stunning hill station located in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Surrounded by dense forests of pine, deodar, and rhododendron, Chopta is the gateway to the sacred Tungnath Temple, the world’s highest Shiva temple, situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters. The trek from Chopta to Tungnath is a moderate and scenic route offering breathtaking views of the Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, and Trishul peaks.
Just 1.5 km above Tungnath lies Chandrashila Peak, a popular summit offering a 360-degree panoramic view of the mighty Himalayas, especially at sunrise. Chopta is also a paradise for bird watchers, nature photographers, and snow trekkers during winter. With peaceful surroundings, lush meadows, and adventure trails, Chopta–Tungnath is perfect for trekkers, pilgrims, and mountain lovers seeking tranquility.
